Sorry - to be specific, I am after level gauge data rather than flow gauge data available in the Hydrology API
The historic Readings daily dump data (https://environment.data.gov.uk/flood-monitoring/doc/reference#historic-readings https://environment.data.gov.uk/flood-monitoring/archive) appears to go back approx 1yr (currently to Aug 2021). Is it possible to access older data via this (or other service) or would it have to be requested manually from the Environment Agency?
many thanks

Hi Adam
Yes, at the moment you will need to request level gauge data that is more than 12 months old from our Enquiries Team (enquiries@environment-agency.gov.uk).
We are working towards adding historic level, rainfall and groundwater data to our Hydrology Data Explorer in the future.

Thanks for confirming that's the current state of play (and I'm not missing a trick). Great to here that the Historic data is coming, will hopefully take pressure off the enquires teams and speed access.
Are you able to share a bit more information on plans for historic data (I appreciate this is likely to change/flex), in particular:
1) Timescales for access to 12 month + data
2) Will there be an public facing API behind the hydrological data explorer to allow automated data access?
many thanks
Hi Adam
We have made good progress over the last 12 months and we now have a product which we are testing internally. We will be making over 4 billion data points available for around 7,000 sites (as opposed to the 25 million which are currently available) so it is not without its challenges. We hope the service will be live within the next 6 months, but this will of course depend to some extent on whether we run into any unforeseen issues.
Both the user interface and API will be similar to the current service: https://environment.data.gov.uk/hydrology
