RPA Land Parcel Data - OS licensing

Hello,

I'm a director of the Community Land Trust where I live (a rural community in Devon comprising 7 neighbouring parishes). We are exploring the possibility of a community land use project. As someone who runs a farm and also uses mapping software I've offered to look into what data might be available. I can find the data for my SBI on the data services platform, and from what I can see I could use the API to get that data into QGIS. I also understand that the data is considered to be derived from OS Mastermap and so access is limited for licensing reasons. If I wanted data for the whole area, could I approach OS for some kind of community use license? Would I then be able to get data from you to cover that whole area? Ideally over as many years as possible to show any changes?

Many thanks,

Sam

Hi Sam

That sounds like a sensible approach.  We are allowed to share our data with community groups as long as there is no commercial angle to your work, but I would recommend contacting OS about a Data Exploration licence to see what your options are as they will be able to answer your licensing questions and may be able to help you with other datasets in addition to ours.  Once you’ve spoken to them please contact our Data Governance team:DSAenquiries@rpa.gov.uk about an extract of our data, we should be able to provide current and historic land data to you.

Thanks

Hello again,

Thanks for the advice - I have been granted an OS Data Exploration Licence, and sent an email to the Data Governance team as suggested, but so far have heard nothing in response. I sent a follow up email today, but am wondering if there are any other avenues I can pursue?

Many Thanks,

Sam

Hi Sam,

I understand you have spoken directly with the DSA team at RPA.

I hope your query is now resolved.

Many thanks
