Spatial data catalogue - Reservoir flood risk

Hello DEFRA Data services forum,

I've been re-linking several WMS links that have recently changed and can't find anything on flood risk from reservoirs anymore. Searching for reservoirs in the data services platform doesn't show anything regarding the layers and the old WMS links are broken. Is this dataset going to be accessible?

I'm working on a flood risk mapping project which requires that we show risk of flooding from reservoirs, so any information you can give on where to find this would be really useful.

Cheers

Jack

Hi Ella,

Thanks for your reply. The flood storage areas layer shows where the reservoirs are but not the extents of flooding in a breach event. Until yesterday there was a working WMS link to the extents of flooding from reservoirs dataset. That WMS link no longer works and the layer does not appear in any searches for risk of flooding or reservoirs etc. in the data services platform.

Is this dataset still available in some form? It is an obligation for lead local flood authorities to map their risk from reservoir flooding and we're working with some now regarding this and our WMS links to the data now no longer work.

Any help is greatly appreciated

Jack

Hi Jack,

Apologies, there is an issue with the metadata records not displaying correctly, we are currently working on this.

Below are the direct links to the data

Hi Ella,

That is the layer I was after, thanks!

An issue we're having however is that the WMS layers are not displaying at scales larger than 1 in 50,000. So we cannot show the data at strategic scales. There seems to be no way to alter this on our side as there is no scale-dependant visibility set for the layer within our GIS software. The same is true for the risk of flooding from surface water layers - our work around for this was to download the raw polygon information as shapefiles and plot these instead.

To remedy this: Is it possible for you to remove the scale dependant visibility on the WMS layers to allow viewing at scales greater than 1 in 50,000?

If not, can you provide a link to the shapefile data for the risk of flooding from reservoirs layers?

Cheers

Jack

Hi Jack

Unfortunately due to security reasons this is a restricted dataset and we are only able to provide it in a WMS format.

With regards to the scale issue, i would need to raise this with our technical team.

I will get back to you ASAP.

many thanks

Hi Jack

I can confirm the reservoir layers are working as intended and we are unable to allow viewing at scales greater than 1 in 50,000.

Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.

Many thanks

Hi DEFRA Data Service forum,

I too had the same query as Jack. I have used the WMS layer in which Ella has kindly provided.

Does this WMS layer have any metadata to accompany it? I particularly would want to find out how up to date it is.

Also, will this WMS layer be available as a shapefile at any point as other surface water flooding extent is?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Jessica
