    What do measure scales mean?

A measure scale is an administrative spatial unit with which measures can be associated with. Every measure is associated with a measure scale but may apply over multiple scales. Measure scales are:

    • River basin districts
    • Management catchments
    • Flood risk areas
    • Strategic areas

Not every measure scale has measures associated with it, in which case the relevant measure scale page on the Flood Plan Explorer will list no measures. However, this does not mean that there are no measures within the area covered by the measure scale, but instead that they may be associated with a different specific measure scale. To find measures in these cases, try browsing at a different scale in the same location, for example at flood risk areas, management catchments, or strategic areas.

In addition to measures at the above scales, there are measures that apply nationally across England. These can be viewed by selecting the ‘National measures’ tab on measure scale pages.
